Who is LiL MC
LiL MC is a bilingual Bay Area-based female hip hop artist and co-director of the women’s empowerment program at the Oakland based non-profit Hip Hop for Change inc., where she teaches students from elementary to university level about the female pioneers of Hip Hop and their impact on the culture. In addition to rapping, singing and competing in rap battle competitions, LiL MC also produces beats.
An Entrepreneurial Mindset
She has been classically trained in piano since she was 7-year-old, which has allowed her to develop her own unique style as a producer as she incorporates many different genres and styles of music and sounds into her beats. She is also the co-founder of the all-women underground Hip Hop showcase “Queens of the Underground” where she highlights the diversity of women-identified artists; from DJ’s, rappers, poets, and MC’s to a variety of dancers. She is also the co-founder of “The Bar exam”, and all women Hip Hop cypher that she created with her colleague Breathless in order to expose groundbreaking up and coming womxn artists that often don’t get the recognition they deserve because they don’t fit into the hypersexualized archetype that we see dominating mainstream media.
LiL MC’s Debut & Music
LiL MC is preparing to debut her first full-length album distributed through Produced by a Girl records and Equity Distribution, Roc Nations indie distribution company. Following the most successful year in her career, where she landed another song placement in NBA 2k23 and a placement in indie arthouse film “An Addict Named Hal”, LiL MC revs up to release a project that will completely shift the sonic landscape for women in Hip Hop.
She only released 3 tracks in 2022 but those singles did higher numbers than her entire catalog combined. Her latest single “Don’t Negotiate My Price” cracked 120,000 streams on spotify in two weeks. Her collaboration track and music video with Vel Nine, a female rapper in Los Angeles that has been making waves for the past decade, landed her on a billboard in Los Angeles. She also had the opportunity to share stages with Bay Area legends E-40, Too Short, and Nef The Pharaoh at the Smoked Out Spring BBQ at the Monterey county fairgrounds in california last April. Needless to say, LiL MC has been putting in the work to create the foundation necessary to launch her career to the next level.
LiL MC’s Foresights & Achievements
Her upcoming album, “Flex Maquina” is a cyberpunk-inspired project that will feature beats primarily produced by herself and her executive producer of the project Unlearn The World, who was featured on XXL Magazine on December 27th. This project will provide an alternative to the hypersexualized sonic climate of mainstream female rappers and display LiL MC’s lyricism, songwriting abilities, production style and versatility as she showcases her ability to flawlessly flow in English and Spanish over a variety of different genres from trap to reggaeton to BoomBap, all while maintaining cohesion through the undeniability of her own unique sound.
Her creative director Kaila Love, who was featured on ESPN and NBA 2K22 is creating unique cyberpunk inspired lyric videos and visuals for each track on the project, creating a cyber-punk universe that listeners can travel to when listening to this project.
